Hello All,
We had a great time apple picking yesterday and Jess already made an apple cobbler with some help from Mathias (good quality). They didn't have the scarecrow fixings this year but we had lots of fun running through the corn rows(not really much of a maze). The weather couldn't have been better. Another year in T-shirts. We missed the Shirley Polis'(the ones who started the tradition) and of course Mom. Steve was missed as he usually is but he won't get away with ever missing out on the fun again. The Destler's and D'Abbraccio's were missing also, especially since there was no little ones to ride in the wagon and get excited over the hay ride but I'm sure they had a great time in the Bahamas instead. Prayer Square
DAD! If you haven't gotten a package from me and Jess yet.... DON'T READ THIS POST!
So I sent Dad a care package and including inside was a little 'prayer square'. It's the soldier-friendly version of a prayer shawl. I personalized it to make it just for Dad! Basically I crochetted a small charm into a tiny 1 in by 1 in square of wool that says 'Believe' on it. Jess and I picked it out to send to him as a little reminder that we all here thinking about it. It's really tiny because we wanted it to fit in one of his bazillion pockets and every time he reaches into the pocket it's in and brushes his fingers against it he'll remember that we're here praying for his safety and so that he won't forget that we love him! So here's the little prayer I wrote to go along with it. It's a little dorky but it's all I could come up with. Definitely can't wait until he comes home!
A Soldier’s Prayer (Prayer Square)
There are no words to say,
exactly what’s in our hearts,
as we pray for each day,
to do our parts.
As we hold near,
this token of love,
don’t let us fear,
for heaven’s above.
Each brush of the fingers,
helps us recall,
the purpose to linger,
is to believe through it all.
Please help us stay strong,
in body, mind and soul.
Remind us of our family’s song,
to know that they’re on a role,
Their prayer’s are there,
each day and night.

and share in our fight.

Steve's in Iraq
Hello All,
Steve is in Iraq and working nights. He made it after some weather trouble since for a while they had too low visibility to continue (smoke haze and dust). They all burn their own garbage and there are hundreds of little burns and combined with claim winds you get restricted visibility. Just before he went north he said the temp was about 60 degrees centergrade!!!! or approx 122 f. He has internet access but no phone at the moment.

Hey All! I got a brief email from Dad the other day saying that he has extremely limited internet access and he neglected to tell me how he was doing, twice... Hoping all is well. School here has started off REALLY crazy... glad I've got a brief moment right now to be able to even read/write in this blog! Things are crazy trying to get the yearbook finished. Steve's in Kuwait
Hello all,
The Mets game was a success, they even won for us. Well Steve is in Kuwait now and has some access through the web so I thought I would share with everyone what he has said about Kuwait so far. "I made it to Kuwait!!! The facilities are BETTER than Ft Sill!!! Food, gym, & PX are good quality. Our aircraft are still enroute and we will have nothing to do till at least SUNDAY!! another scheduling blunder." He says that the heat there is an unbearable 111 day & 95 @ night. The air conditioner in their 90 man tent was broken but they did get the entire generator replaced that first evening so his sleep was most enjoyable!!! The sun is up bright and in your face by 5:30 am and down by 6:30 pm. There is no grass, no trees, just dust sand and wind blowing like a hair dryer. You cannot escape the gritty dust, its even between your toes! He said they should be moving forward to Iraq between the 7 & 10th. Everyone keep the prayers going.

Mets Game--Yup, the Yankee fan is excited.
Mom, you should have taken them up on the free carpet cleaning... the one in the basement needs major help!
Dad, excited to be coming home in like 20 days??? I am! We're going to celebrate by going to a way cheap Mets game against the Atlanta Braves! We'll probably all get nose bleeds from the seats but it'll be a family event! I called your side of the family and Mom's calling hers. Aunt Patty is coming down with Bernadette and Lauren, Aunt Eileen and all them (possibly minus Peter) are coming; Aunt Lucy, Marianne and her boyfriend are coming and hopefully so will the Tom & Brenda Polis crew (it is Mels b-day and she's a Yankee fan so who knows...). Nannie wants to come and we're going to do what we can to convince Meatball (even though his knees may not do too well). I'm excited!
Jess & Scott... clean the house, work hard at camp and do something productive (maybe like read or post here!).
I'm coming home tonight for a long weekend! YAY!

Hello Again,
I found out that West Side has a new principle as of last night so I guess she will be interviewing soon for the library position. So wish me luck! I really hate interviews.
I had an interesting adventure in Second Life while doing research for my project. I visited Munich, Germany and chatted with a real life german fellow. He answered a lot of my questions and showed me some of the traditional costumes that they wear for Sundays and celebrations. It was the first person I met in Second Life that I found helpful so far. Since I am a "newbie" I have avoided chat with anyone I don't know for fear of embarrassing myself.
On Monday I read this Guidepost devotional and thought I would like to share it with all of you.
"Nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the Lord of Hosts hath spoken it." - Micah 4:3-4
The following is written by Brian Doyle:
A young friend of mine is just back from Iraq. He was twenty-three years old when he left, and now he is a thousand times older than I. We sit in the sun and he talks awhile.
"I don't regret my service," he says. "I did a good thing, protecting my friends, trying to help the people there find a peaceful life where they can just work and pray and argue like normal people.
"I prayed, sure. You bet I prayed. I prayed all the time. And I tried to do everything with my fullest attention - that's a kind of prayer too. When I cleaned my weapon, I was intent on cleaning my weapon. When I helped build a shed for a family, I built the best shed there ever was.
"Someday I'll go back. I have to go back. Those poor people, they were just like us. The kids trying to get out of doing their homework, and somebody forgot to let the dog out, and whose turn is it to do the dishes? The prayer of every day. I bet I prayed that prayer more than any other when I was there: 'God, grant us the miracle of a normal day." I mean, really, what more powerful prayer could you ever pray?"
Then to finish Brian Doyle prayed: "Dear Lord, on my knees I beg You this: Grant us the miracle of a normal day. I know full well that every day is a miracle, but You know what I mean. And can You shove the world toward being a place where no child has to go to war?"
I feel that this entry helped me to remember why our service people need to go over to Iraq. They need to have a normal day where they can feel safe like we do here in a free America. Thank you to all our service men and women that have the compassion to do what is needed! And never forget that God puts us right where he needs us to be. Please do his work always.

Hello all,
Today was a very good day overall. Dentist went well, no novacaine for filling. Then Home Depot sent someone to fix the sink cabinet base and did a wonderful job. Then after arguing with the company that did such a lousey job putting up our fence they agreed to send me a check for $100 and a free carpet cleaning (but we have no carpets so I said that part wasn't nescessary). Then I used some coupons to get $28 refund for previous purchases. Next with the help of Scott and Jessica I returned the Elliptical machine that hurt my knees and found a new one that seems better than the one in the gym. It was originally $999 since it is a Nordetrack and I got it for $379! Wow, now I just have to get Scott to put it together. I can't use it for a few more days anyway since the chiropracter still needs to repair it. God is good!

Hello all,
This summer seems to be flying by. Meg had a great party at the house with a lot of her friends. It was great meeting her internship roommate, Kristina and her friends from school, Katie and Joe. Her friends from home came too and a volleyball game began. Scott even had a great time playing volleyball and going in the pool. (Wow, he saw life outside of Rune Scape!! and had fun.) It is always a pleasure to get to know Matt (Jess' boyfriend) and Steve (Meg's boyfriend whom I am told did a great job at bar-b-quing) a little better. They seem to be nice picks. Good taste girls.
Yesterday Jessica and I one handedly (OK we each used both our hands) took apart a trampoline brought it home in the truck and reassembled in our yard. Thanks to a great neighbor, Cynthia, who donated it. We then cleanned it up and proudly jumped for joy to great heights. Fun was had by all.
Well, it is off to the chiropractor, hopefully he can find problems with my neck and knee.

Meg I like your idea of the colors. I pick purple. I can't believe that you are more than half-way done with your intership. I hope you are learning alot. I hope you are having some fun too, but I'm sure you are with going to Boston this weekend. Let us know how it went. Dad's R&R changed dates already. He is now coming home August 17th which is a Sunday and going back on the Thursday so I am not sure when you guys could have us visit. But that date may change again. Talk to you all soon. Weekend...
Hi Family!
Mom you are so awesome for starting this for everyone! It's the coolest idea ever!!! Why didn't I think of it first? Hahah probably because I'm not much into the blogging thing, anyway... So Dad, FYI, I went home this weekend and spent a bunch of time with the family... I had a great time and I'm still tired from it! Also... Today at work... (reminding you all--this is day 1 of week 5 (halfway through!!!) I finally got assigned a project to manage... a project to manage all by myself!!! I'm going to be running meetings and being the person who gets to tell people what to do! Go me! It's not my birthday... but it feels like it! YAH! .... now flip side of that.. hopefully I won't mess it up! YIKES!
